Development[]
In 2018, Simon Dunlap, the person who's responsible for creating the original Mr. Messy series, came up with the idea of a reboot of said show while he was sketching on his notebook. After going to Jumpbrave's headquarters, he then started to draw some concept art before the pilot has been released, such as Mr. Messy still having a unibrow (like in The Mr. Men Show), and an idea of new characters that were about to be pitched into the final, including Ashley (a female human) and Wrappy (a living candy wrapper). In the coming months of that year, the show, under the title of "The New Mr. Messy Show", and its creator, being revealed to be Charlie Bradley, has been announced as a sneak-peek on Jumpbrave's blog and social media profiles and is set to release soon with the date not being revealed until a week after the pilot's released. Production of the pilot has started, and is set to release the year the original Mr. Messy series turns 20 years old.
The pilot, having many differences from the show's release, was released in 2019 when the original series' 20th anniversary is a few months away. In this hidden episode, there are 3 main characters than the usual 4 Mr. Men and Little Misses (10 if counted with Miss Groovy, Ashley and the psuedo-objects), Mr. Messy had a different voice other than Scott Chapman's, and Miss Sloppy never speaks throughout the entire episode.
A few weeks after the pilot has been released, an announcement saying that the show will release on August of 2020, visibly during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. After that, a few posts themed after the artstyle of the show, displaying a few advices related to the ongoing pandemic, such as staying at home and washing your hands.
Several Mr. Men fans were anticipated to see the new series, with promotions including television advertisements and official trailers released on the production company's YouTube channel.
Mistertown[]
During development of the first season 1 episode, one of the writers, Zayliana Wrocklage, asked the show's creator Charlie, what the new name for the main setting was. It was most likely to be based on its original name from the original 1999 series, which used to be "Misterland", except that the -land suffix has been replaced with the word "town" since the location fittingly appears to be like a large city; Charlie then coined the term later for use in research and presentation.

Main Article: List of The New Mr. Messy Show characters
- Mr. Messy (voiced by Scott L. Chapman) - The messiest guy you know in all of town! He's a creative and fun-loving Mr. Man who wants to stay playful. So does you. His favourite things are messy stuff (mostly cluttered in a pile), pizza, and of course – music! When he's not making messes in his house, he is very talented as an artist, and maybe a singer. But what will he do if Mr. Fussy told him to keep himselves neat and tidy? He wouldn't be impressed or wants to pull insanely hilarious pranks, but just a little guy with whimsy!
- Miss Sloppy (voiced by Addyson Chelli) – She's Mr. Messy's sister with a differently colour which feels like they're swapped. With a pink bow attached like a cherry on top, her messy attitude, just like her brother, becomes so much sweeter. When she's not at home, she sometimes hangs out with her BEST friends, and telling them to stay joyful. Just hit a smile to yourself!
- Miss Messy (season 2, voiced by Natalina Schucany) - Who is the new girl in town you might wanna see? It's Miss Messy, the swapped gender clone of Mr. Messy! Unlike Miss Sloppy and her brother, she also loves to make messes, and sometimes a taste of dessert. And yet she's creative from her art made with pens and crayons on a sheet of paper. The two needed to meet, whether they're both at home, at the fair, or at a coffee shop – because they're adorable to you, right?
- Mr. Fussy (voiced by Corbin Winters) - He's tall, green, and maybe slim – Mr. Fussy is like a strict parent whose still telling his messy siblings to be clean, but can't be resisted with the power of his cleaning tools, like disinfectant spray or a sponge. His fancy and elegant collection of mementos never beat the competition of Mr. Messy's admirable closet of gags and items for all his hobbies. If he sees a sloppy fuzzball like Mr. Messy, beware!
- Mr. Daydream (also voiced by Scott L. Chapman) - Mr. Daydream is shaped like a blue cloud and never had any arms. He loves to dream all day, and maybe you guessed it, sleeping late at night in the comfort of his bed. When his other friends, began to dream about something in their nap, he'd enter the cloud of thoughts except for the nightmares only one at a time! You wouldn't know what his blue nightcap means for...
- Miss Groovy (voiced by Alizey K. Santana) - Miss Groovy has a... well, you know, groovy attitude! Unlike her friend Mr. Messy, she enjoys music in a different variety of genres and can have the ability to play the guitar. Her bouncy antics make up the vibe of starting parties, having food fights, and other amusements that can make anybody grin with absolute joy. If she makes mistakes, she'd always wanted to start her job again, whenever she feels like wanting to study at her room's desk – now that's the groove we're talking about!
- Ashley (voiced by Ayana Gledhill-Jennings) - She is one of the only human characters to exist in the show, but she's just so kind and lovable. Served as a maid to take care of Mr. Messy and his closest friends, she loves to teach manners and play along – in what situation you're witnessing. With a dark pink shirt, overalls and white headband being her signature possesions for her outfit, she wants to show off her style since she likes fashion, too!
- Nifty (season 2, voiced by Paden Maclin) - Nifty is a living pink triangle and the only town's residents with pupiled circle eyes you've never seen. They master magic tricks with their signature black and white wand, and a blue top hat to go with. When they're bored and just wanted to keep their entertainment catching to the eyes, he sometimes goes out to watch magic shows, which makes them inspired to do their favourite hobby.
- Wrappy (also voiced by Paden Maclin) - This flexible candy wrapper with two colours is looking thick so far, and it's Wrappy! He loves to consume candies of all types, and was first seen at a ferris wheel in a theme park somewhere in the big town. However, he never gets fact everytime he wants to eat pure sugary goodness... but not something healthy like vegetables.
- Tumble (voiced by Konnor Charles) - Guess who's tumbling again! He is a purple tube with a string attached to it that can make some noise, and loves to tumble and roll everywhere, as his main method of movement. When they're close to the other psuedo-objects or Mr. Men and Little Misses, he jumps up and down only to get attention. But what would happen if you fill him with water and shake it? You'll make him dizzy – funny, right?
- Placeholder - He is just a placeholder, which is just a white ball and never speaks. Once he is in a mood somewhere whenever he feels like, he could change its colour as his hidden talent. Mysterious, shy and sometimes submissive on what it seems. But, does he have the power of turning into a cube, though?

Theme song[]
The theme song for the series is written and composed by musicians and show's composers Faustino Strobach and Rayson Belisle with vocals by Josh S. Currie. It is a swing revival/twee-pop/indie rock track in the key of F major, a tempo of 167 beats per minute and in the length of 48 seconds (including the ending phrase).
In January 2023, electronic music duo MixNMash made a remix of the song, with differences being that the track is sped up by 12%, leaving the key the same as the original and extended to a duration of 1 minute and 56 seconds. According to Seth Söderlund, ½ of the group, it is classified as a mix of liquid drum-and-bass and glitch hop.
"Hey Mr. Messy"[]
The remix of the song, "Hey Mr. Messy", originally from the 1982 Mr. Men and Little Miss Sing Along album, is one of the notable songs made for the show and most often heard in some promotional content, when this version has various differences than normal: the tempo and musical key (along with the modulation) is the same, the length is cut down to 3 minutes and 46 seconds, leaving the track's intro and outro slightly shorter than expected, and re-arranged to be in the style of speed/electro house/hands-up within a triplet rhythm unlike the original song. The vocals were provided by Rhianna Parker, with additional phrases said by Mr. Messy in parts of the song by Scott L. Chapman; composed and arranged by Dareck Lartigue, Vann Jewett and Faustino Strobach.
